On the Up and Up

Praise God! Dean has slept much better the last two nights! He still has a bummer rash all over his body and is quite the fuss bucket. Surely the sleeping is a sign that he's beginning to feel better.

We had our state writing tests today for my fourth graders. It was fun to walk around and see all of the great things that my kids have learned. Many of them won't score well, because they're not profecient yet. I find that I don't really care because I'm so thrilled that they have achieved so much. One student, that recently joined my class, could not write more than bullet pointed notes in place of a paragraph. Today, though he didn't write the multiple paragraph paper I was hoping for, he wrote a whole paragraph AND it was a good one. I am so proud of my students and their hard work.

That said, I can't help but think that some of you who read my writing regularly are thinking that maybe I shouldn't be the one to teach kids how to write. I blame it on sleep deprivation personally, but think what you will. *grin*

Lack of Posts and Sleep

Please do forgive the lack of posts. I have fun pictures to load and stories to tell, but only find myself available during our nightly rampages of screaming baby who can't be consoled. I find myself taking a break from his kicking legs and headbutting at 12 a.m. tonight. Anyone else have a baby who wakes up all hours of the night or has gone for over a week with night time screaming sessions with no other symptoms than a rash? I thought maybe he was getting another tooth, but now I'm not so sure.

Long Nights

It's 4 AM.
As though in college, I've been pullin all nighters again. This time I have no term paper or A on a test to show for it. I also can't return to bed after a few classes and nap it off.

Dean's been up every 1 or 2 hours for the past two nights. Nothing comforts him and he can't seem to wind himself down either. Poor baby. As he's got a runny nose again, I'm sure he's developing an ear infection. Though he has no fever, I'll do the normal wait three days and bring him in so that the infection's had enough time to develop and be seen.

Tomorrow morning (1.5 hours from now) is going to be a coffee morning. Maybe a coffee afternoon too. I guess when Dean starts his professional career, I can ask him for a present involving some whitening treatments to make up for all of these coffee days I do now.

Birthday Boy!

Wow, that first year goes by fast!

The Park

We've been trying to go out and do things on the weekend that are Dean friendly. Of course, parks are hardly kid friendly when you spend your time keeping an eye out for syringes, cigarettes, and other icky stuff in the sand. We only found cigarettes on this trip and Dean didn't put any in his mouth.

Sharing is Good

Dean has decided lately that he'd like to share with me. Sounds nice right? Not so tempting when it's the squash he's just taken out of his mouth.

Unfortunate

I have been reading a few series over the years and have finally come to the end of both. One was the Harry Potter series. I really enjoyed the last book and thought that JK Rowlings wrapped it up nicely in the end. As with all series that I enjoy, I am sad to depart a long friend and wish there was more.

The other series is a serious disappointment. I began this one when I was 16, so I've been hanging on for nearly 12 years. It was The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan. I have only just finished reading the second to last book, but will never know what Robert Jordan had in mind for the final book because he has sadly passed away. What a shame! I am sad for his family and selfishly sad for his readers. I've heard another author will be writing the last Wheel of Time book in his stead. I will read it, but will wonder if it ends the way it's original author had in mind.
